Fantasy Football Trading Tips

What would you give up for a star running back? Your star wide receiver? The majority of your blind bidding money? Your first-round picks in the next two rookie/freeagent drafts?

This page gives you the opportunity to communicate who you are willing to trade, and what you want for them.

Effective Use of the Trade Bait Page

Many owners just list the players they're tired of and hope somebody will give them quality for their junk. It never happens. Instead, if you want quality, recognize that you're going to have to give quality.

You might realize immediately after the draft that you are strong at running back but weak at wide receiver. You then might list all of your running backs, along with the comment "willing to trade any running back for a wide receiver to my liking drafted in the same round."

Or you might realize your depth is lacking, list your 4th-best wide receiver, and say "Want to better your starting lineup? Looking to trade 1-for-2 for two receivers of slightly lesser value." (Let's be honest, here: If you say you're looking to trade 2-for-1, you'll be sneered at; but if you seriously want to trade 1-for-2, you'll be inundated with offers. Everybody wants to improve their starting lineup.)

Perhaps you're looking to acquire the handcuff for any of your running backs. You might list all of the backup running backs on your roster with a message like this: "I need player x1 or player x2 to compliment my running backs. Willing to trade your handcuffs to you if we can put together a multi-team trade somehow to get all the handcuffs where they belong.

Successful trading involves imaginative ideas to help other people improve their teams at the same time you're improving yours.

In-season Fantasy Football Trading

While the above examples work well all year long, sometimes in-season trading can be more advantageous. Some hints about effectively using the trade bait page while the season is underway:

• Got a wide receiver that just broke out with a monster game, or put two great games together back-to-back, because the normal starter is injured? Put him on trade bait, and hope somebody is watching his success without really understanding why he's successful.
• Got a handcuff to a running back that just went down with injury? Another team is probably hurting, having lost their running back and not knowing for sure when they'll get him back to full strength. If you don't need him, list him for value, such as "hoping to improve at quarterback, will throw in x1 if it helps make a deal.
• Got a player who routinely hits a wall late in the season and wears down? A player with a tough upcoming schedule? A player that you sense is getting on the nerves of his coach? You've got to list him today, not tomorrow.
